  • Robert Fluck, Jr. is featured in this article in the Syracuse, NY, Post-Standard on tips to keep respiratory infections at bay at school. Robert based the article on the “Back to School Without the Bugs” press release featured in our “Year of the Lung” Press Release Project and sent it to his local paper, which agreed to publish it.

  • Tim King is profiled for his many years of service on his local school board in this article in the Roanoke Rapids, NC, Daily Herald. Tim resigned just recently in order to return to school to complete his own master’s degree.

  • Allen Gros shares the twists and turns his life took after Hurricane Katrina in this article in the Decatur, TN, Daily. Allen and his family relocated to Tennessee after the storm, but have now moved back to Louisiana to be closer to family.

  • Claudia Briggs is noted for spearheading a collection of items from members of her respiratory therapy and pulmonary function departments for soldiers in Iraq in this article in the Towanda, PA, Daily Review.
  • Brenda K. Barger-Saunders receives kudos for winning the Pearson Prize for Higher Education in this article in the Joplin, MO, Independent. Brenda says she decided to pursue a degree in RT after being laid off from her previous job. “I wanted a job in which I could truly make a difference and help people live long and healthy lives,” she was quoted as saying.
  • Jay Taylor comments on a new coalition in his state that’s supporting a $2 per pack increase in cigarette taxes in this article on the KFGO website out of Fargo/Moorhead, ND.
  • David Henson is noted for joining the health careers division at Angelina College in this article in the Lufkin, TX, Daily News.
  • Glenn Tammen shares great information about dealing with the fall allergy season in this article in the McPherson, KS, Sentinel.
  • Ron Rohlfing is noted for his appointment to the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance board in this article in the Cincinnati, OH, Enquirer.
  • Robert “Hawk” Hawkins is profiled for his job as an ICU respiratory therapist in this article in the Richmond, VA, Times-Dispatch. Hawk retired from the position last year, but missed it so much he returned to work a month later. “I breathe for people with machines,” he was quoted as saying. “I keep them alive until they can get better and can breathe on their own.”
  • Cindy Bailo is noted for helping a 99-year-old patient stay strong enough to attend her grandson’s wedding in this article in the Observer & Eccentric out of Detroit, MI. “Anna’s very motivated, intelligent and independent,” Cindy was quoted as saying. “The example she sets shows that a person is never too old to benefit from exercise.”
  • Tulsa, OK, City Auditor Preston Doerflinger receives high marks for leading a newly formed Management Review Office in this article in the Tulsa World. The office is charged with reviewing 1,100 recommendations from a study on the city’s government. Preston was elected city auditor last fall.
  • Marc Connolly is featured in this article in the Danbury, CT, News-Times about the expansion of his home medical equipment business.
  • Douglas E. Masini is noted for giving a talk on the dangerous games of “huffing” and “choking” being played by some children in this article in the Savannah, GA, Connect.
  • George Garcia is featured in this video out of Garden Grove, CA, on free heart screenings being given to high school football players by his hospital. The screenings were spurred by the untimely death of a player from an undiagnosed heart problem last year.

  • Gary Lynch is noted for staffing a booth on respiratory conditions at a health fair for senior citizens in this article in the Columbia Basin Herald out of Moses Lake, WA.
  • Leah Carlson and Paul Stephan talk about an open house they’re hosting for students who might want to enroll in their respiratory care program in this article on the Santa Fe College website out of Gainesville, FL. “Usually the students are very enthusiastic, and they really enjoy getting their hands on the equipment,” Leah was quoted as saying. “Many of our current students still talk about the time when they came to open house.”

  • Cheryl Lacy explains why her hospital donates new nebulizers to local schools in this article in the Winchester, IN, News-Gazette. “Instead of having to stay home from school when they’re having an attack, they can have their breathing treatment administered at the school,” she was quoted as saying.
