  • Ann Allen comments on an asthma camp run by her RC program as a senior project in this article in the Greenwood, SC, Index Journal. “It took us a couple years to get it running, but as far as I know, we’re the only college-run asthma camp in the state,” she was quoted as saying.

  • Jim Allen explains why time is of the essence when caring for STEMI patients in this article in the Ellensburg, WA, Daily Record.

  • Melissa Shaw is noted for co-leading a program on emergency response in this article in the Cay Compass out of Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

  • Joseph Sorbello shares information about a new partnership that will bring respiratory care education to an underserved part of his state in this article in the Watertown, NY, Daily Times.

  • Christina Mulloy gives high marks to the health academy she attended in high school in this article in the Marshall County Journal out of Britton, SD. "It was so nice because I could see the different health careers to choose from. They hooked me up with some therapists so I could find out even more," she was quoted as saying. The recent University of Mary grad is now working as an RT.

  • Mark Hamm is featured for brightening up a blighted urban space with his “secret garden” in this article on the WSBTV web site in Atlanta, GA. (Stay tuned to AARC Times for more on Mark and what motivated him to plant in what would seem to be an unplantable space.)

  • Jason Shedd is noted for winning a Hero award at his hospital in this article in the Rome, GA, News Tribune. “Jay is dependable and rigorous in both his professional and personal life. I admire and respect his helpfulness, generosity, dependability and determination,” Department Director Jeff Thompson was quoted as saying.

  • Tim Julian receives kudos for once again winning a local six-mile race in this article in the Medford, OR, Mail Tribune. This was his fifth time to take top honors in the event, which is held on the Fourth of July.

  • Preston Doerflinger’s candidacy for city auditor is covered in this article on the KTUL-TV web site out of Tulsa, OK. Preston believes he can bring his business experience as an entrepreneur in the health care sector to the position.

  • Vinny Caruso comments on respiratory problems related to mold in this article in the Laconia, NH, Citizen.

  • Cindy Kaczmarczyk shares information about a man who accidentally ran over members of his family at a campground where she was camping with her children in this article in the Muskegon, MI, News. When she heard the man yell, “Breathe! I want you to breathe,” she immediately ran over to offer assistance until the ambulance could arrive.

  • Mark Forney is noted as the contact person for a quit smoking program at his hospital in this article in the Port Clinton, OH, Beacon. The program utilizes a CRT trained as a tobacco treatment specialist, along with an RRT trained in the ALA’s Freedom from Smoking program.

  • They say parents should inspire their children to greatness, but for Michelle Schwier, who just won a Marguerite Kageler Education Grant  from the Respiratory Care Foundation of Texas, it’s been the other way around. She gives daughter Anna and her complex respiratory needs full credit for leading her to the profession in this article on the KWTX-TV web site out of Waco, TX. (FYI: The grant honors the mother of Dr. Woody Kageler.)

    • Santa Rosa Medical Center in this article in the Santa Rosa, FL, Press-Gazette. “This certification represents the significant quality standards our hospital provides to the community,” Department Director Larry Wilkinson was quoted as saying.

    • Star Valley Medical Center in this article in the Afton, WY, Star Valley Independent. (Mike Hepworth and Colette Jensen are both noted as members of the RT team.)

    • Pasco Regional Medical Center of Dade City in this article on TampaBay.com out of St. Petersburg, FL.
