FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dallas, TX (December 17, 2012) —The American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) honored Alexandros Mathioudakis,  MD, with the Charles W. Serby COPD Research Fellowship at a recent awards ceremony held in New Orleans, LA at the largest national meeting of respiratory therapists held each year.

Mathioudakis, from Southport, England received the honor. The award granted by the ARCF was established in 2002 to promote research and education in the area of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This award is funded by a grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in honor of Dr. Charles Serby’s long-standing commitment to respiratory clinical research.

Respiratory therapists are specialized health care providers who take care of people with lung conditions ranging from asthma to COPD. They work throughout the acute care hospital on the general wards, in the emergency department, and in the intensive care units, and are also increasingly employed in sleep centers, physician offices, outpatient clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, skilled nursing facilities, and patients’ homes.
