Dallas, TX (Oct. 28, 2012) - The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) has published an audio version of Adventures of an Oxy-Phile2 just in time for COPD Awareness Month that begins on Nov. 1. It is available free of charge as a downloadable audio book on YourLungHealth.org.

Dr. Thomas Petty, a renowned pulmonary physician, who passed away in December of 2009, authored Adventures of an Oxy-Phile2.His colleagues put the finishing touches on his work and published it shortly after his death. Adventures of an Oxy-Phile2 features useful information for oxygen users from Dr. Petty and other experts in the field, along with nine personal stories from people who are living their lives to the fullest despite their dependence on supplemental oxygen.

Now his last book for oxygen patients, is available for free download in audio book format on the AARC’s consumer website, www.YourLungHealth.org. The book is read by long-time AARC member and respiratory therapist Patrick Dunne.

As Dunne said in a review of the book that appeared in the AARC’s science journal, Respiratory Care, “In the final analysis, Adventures of an Oxy-Phile2 is a fitting tribute to a giant in the pulmonary community, who always placed his patients at the forefront. With the publication of this book, I’m pleased to note that Dr. Petty’s commitment to his patients will endure long after his passing.”

Dr. Petty was a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver and was known throughout health care for his groundbreaking work in pulmonary rehabilitation and home oxygen therapy. With more than 800 scientific papers to his credit, he led the way into the modern era of respiratory care. Dr. Petty was also a patient advocate and patient educator who dedicated his life to improving not only the health but also the quality of life of people living with respiratory conditions.
