Orientation of New Members

House Charge:
To create a sample framework for implementation of affiliate orientation and data archiving which could be used by affiliates to bring new Affiliate Board of Directors quickly up to speed regarding affiliate effectiveness.

Purpose:
Many times affiliates are unable to provide an orientation for new members. It was felt that if affiliates could provide a written outline of important events, issues, resolutions, etc., that this might facilitate the orientation of new members to the current and past issues facing the board.

Recommendations for developing your own Template:

  1. Assign task of archiving information for new board members to an officer, standing committee, or new committee.
  2. Start with the most current year and work backwards.
  3. Have committee members review previous minutes and determine what issues to present. It is recommended to include the following:
    1. The year
    2. President for that year
    3. Break into topic categories for example: AARC, Business, Education
    4. Landmark issues (AARC and your State)
    5. Recurring issues
    6. Major resolutions/decisions that affect your society
    7. National awards received
    8. Other pertinent information regarding your state
