Workshop #1: Train the Trainer—Ventilators of the Strategic National Stockpile

Pandemic flu is a reality. Preparations are in place. Are you ready? The AARC proudly presents this training program to prepare you for pandemic flu.

Novel H1N1 flu has reached pandemic proportions. ARDS and severe hypoxemia are being reported in select populations. The Federal Government’s preparation includes ventilators from the Strategic National Stockpile. The Impact 754, the Pulmonetic Systems LTV-1200, and the Puritan Bennett LP-10 are currently in the stockpile. How do you access these ventilators? What supplies accompany each ventilator? How do we train our staff? What are the capabilities and limitations of each device? This workshop will answer questions about the Strategic National Stockpile and train you and your team to maximize this national resource. Experts in the use of each ventilator, including Eileen Malation MS RN from the CDC’s Strategic National Stockpile, will present set-up instructions, use, and best practices for setting FIO2, tidal volume, and PEEP. Details on the components of the stockpile and the mechanism by which devices are requested and delivered will be presented.

The course will be held Friday, December 4 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. It will start at 9:00 A.M. and conclude at 4:00 P.M.

  • Free of charge to registered Congress attendees.
  • Attendance is limited.
  • Pre-registration is required. Deadline: November 17 or when the course is full.
  • Lunch is on your own.
  • Course is approved for 5.67 continuing education credits (CRCE). You must attend the entire course to receive CRCE credits; no partial credit will be given.
  • This course runs concurrently with the Mechanical Ventilation Course and Workshop. You may register for only one.

Course/Workshops #2: Mechanical Ventilation

Some of the most noted experts on mechanical ventilation in the respiratory care community will conduct the course and workshops. They will update participants on the current state-of-the-art thinking on mechanical ventilation. Specifically, the course will review basic principles on mechanical ventilatory support; review recent advances in the evidence-base for strategies of mechanical ventilatory support; and provide hands-on workshops on newer technologies for providing mechanical ventilatory support.

The course will be held Friday, December 4 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

  • Attendance is limited.
  • Pre-registration is required. Deadline: November 17 or when the course is full.
  • Registration fee is separate from Congress registration.
  • Congress registrants receive a 60% discount on this course.
  • Lunch is on your own.
  • Course is approved for 6.67 continuing education credits (CRCE). You must attend the entire course to receive CRCE credits; no partial credit will be given.
