National Ventilator Survey: The Results Are In!

Last fall the AARC surveyed the nation’s hospitals to determine how many ventilators are available. Conducted at the behest of the Department of Health and Human Services, the poll was aimed at helping government planners prepare for any health emergency involving a major respiratory component to care.
Now, the results are in. Here are just a few of the statistics you’ll find in the HHS Report:

| Ventilators Pediatrics-capable Per 100,000 Population Under 18 Years Old: | 36.3 |
The report also includes a state-by-state breakdown of these statistics. Interestingly, Washington, DC, topped the list for the largest number of both full featured ventilators and pediatric ventilators per 100,000 population, at 77.6 and 152.2, respectively. Next in line was West Virginia, with 30.3 and 64.2.
The lowest per 100,000 population numbers were seen in Idaho, which came in at 11.9 for full featured vents, and Delaware, which reported just 15.8 for pediatric vents.
