AARC members Dean Hess, PhD, RRT, FAARC, Richard Branson, MSc, RRT, FAARC, and Richard Kallet, MS, RRT, FAARC, are representing the respiratory care profession in a new initiative underway at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to develop a new and improved ventilator bundle aimed at preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).

Recognized experts in ventilator care, Dr. Hess, Branson, and Kallet joined the effort after Johns Hopkins investigators reached out to the AARC for RT participation.

During the first stage of the NHLBI-sponsored project, Hopkins researchers will be determining the interventions that should be included in the new VAP prevention bundle. The panel of experts will fill out a series of surveys rating VAP interventions taken from the medical literature.
