The AARC was just contacted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asking for assistance in communicating to respiratory therapists about the imminent phase out of over-the-counter Primatene Mist.

According to the FDA statement:

“After December 31, 2011, Primatene Mist will no longer be an essential use of CFCs and will be subject to the Clean Air Act’s nonessential products ban, making its production, distribution, and sale illegal.”

The FDA requests that respiratory therapists be aware of Primatene Mist’s removal and be prepared for the patients that might show up in clinics and EDs once it becomes unavailable.

The FDA has provided a one-page flyer in English and Spanish that they are asking health care providers and professionals to distribute to as many patients as possible.
