  • Laura Miller comments in two articles on ClarksvilleOnline.com out of Clarksville, TN. This one focuses on a scholarship received by one of her students, while this one covers a pinning ceremony held for her summer graduates.   
  • Maryland RTs scored an Associated Press article about their recent Vent 5K that was picked up by multiple newspapers across the country, including the Washington Post, Newsday, Forbes, and the Seattle Post Intelligencer, among others. The friendly competition is sponsored every year by the American Respiratory Care Foundation.
  • Tina Sarra is noted for taking on the role of facility coordinator for her hospital’s American Heart Association Heart Walk team in this article in the Gulf Breeze News out of Florida. The team raised nearly $20,000 of the more than $59,000 raised by the entire health system and Tina received kudos for going above and beyond with fund raising events to make it happen.   
  • Stacey Blank talks about the role exercise plays in keeping chronic lung disease patients healthy and out of the hospital in this article in the Cumberland, MD Times-News. “Respiratory patients end up planning their day around the illness,” she was quoted as saying. “They might say ‘I can get this one thing done today,’ not realizing that their daily lives can be better.”
  • Casey Phalen is featured for taking part in a career fair for high school kids in this article in the Bozeman, MT, Daily Chronicle.
  • Vicki Smith talks about the Health Occupations Students of America organization in this article in the Las Vegas, NV, Review-Journal. Vicki is the HOSA advisor at a local career and technical academy aimed at preparing young people for their future careers. (We’ll have more on her role there in an upcoming AARC Times.)
  • Nicky Anspach explains why she serves as an adjunct clinical instructor for RT students at a local college in this article in the Green Valley, AZ, News and Sun. “Your clinical instructor can make or break you,” she was quoted as saying, adding, “I’m always proud when the students I’ve taught have compassion for their patients.”
  • Kelly Brown lets the public know about a health fair for COPD patients in this article in the Fredericksburg, VA, Free Lance-Star. RTs were going to be available to provide advice and answer questions, and train people on the effective use of their inhaler devices.
  • Stan Grantham is pictured along with fellow members of his hospital’s Administrative Council in this article in the Hattiesburg, MS, American. The group is showing off the facility’s accreditation as a Chest Pain Center.
