  • AARC Executive Director Sam Giordano comments in this article in the Boston, MA, Globe about patients who have died in incidents involving ventilator alarms. “The alarms are a symptom, and it’s up to the caregivers to sort out whether that requires medical intervention,’’ he was quoted as saying. “Sometimes we overdo it and forget we’re there to watch that patient. We can’t send in alarms to replace the caregivers.’’
  • Jereme Lane is noted for diving into the Duwamish River to rescue a truck driver who had gone overboard in his rig in this article in the Seattle, WA, Times. Jereme could see the man pounding on the skylight of his truck and lost no time plunging in to save him.
  • Bill Rosandick comments in this article in the Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Daily Tribune about the important role community partnerships play in the education of his RT students. “Staff therapists are outstanding at assisting students in achieving the broadest clinical experience to enlighten them as to the duties and responsibilities of their future career, helping make the step from student to professional practitioner a small one,” he was quoted as saying.

  • Donna Divis shares her passion for body building in this article in the Rapid City, SD, Journal. She and her husband are now entering competitions to show off their skills.
  • Sherry Anderson explains how a local hospice helped her husband before he passed away in 2007 in this article in the Longmont, CO, Times-Call. The group holds a Lights of Life remembrance service for the families of their clients every year.
  • Len Picha receives kudos for being named an American Lung Association Volunteer of the Week in this article on the ALA website. Len was honored for his work in asthma and COPD.
  • Mary Schneeberger, who is still a junior in high school, is noted for presenting an Open Forum abstract at AARC Congress 2011 in this article in the Hillcrest, OH, Patch. Mary undertook the project during an internship she completed last summer through the Cleveland Clinic summer science internship program.
  • Diane Pullins and Nita Cadic are noted for hosting a COPD screening program at their hospital in this article on NeighborNewspapers.com out of Atlanta, GA. The event included a visit from the COPD Foundation’s COPD Shuttle: Journey to the Center of the Lung.
  • Mark Vargus sent us this article on NKY.com about a wedding that RTs and nurses at his hospital hosted recently for the daughter of one of their patients who was unable to leave the hospital. (We’ll have more on their above-and-beyond efforts in an upcoming issue of AARC Times.)
  • Northelyn Verdeflor and Kristi Satterfield are pictured in this article in the Greenwood, SC, Today for receiving the Gwen Hancock Memorial Scholarship.
  • Mary Ann Fuhr comments on her pulmonary rehabilitation program’s recertification by the AACVPR in this article in the Leader Telegram out of Eau Claire, WI. “Recertification shows that we have all the components of a successful program,” she was quoted as saying.
  • Arzu Ari is noted for receiving several awards for her work on aerosol drug delivery in this article on the Georgia State University website. Her student, Maher AlQuaimi, joined her in receipt of the American Respiratory Care Foundation’s Monaghan/Trudell Fellowship for Aerosol Technique Development.
