Radon Forum Welcomes RT Attendees

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning and the New York State Department of Health are hosting a Radon Medical Forum in Buffalo, NY, on June 4, and respiratory therapists are invited to attend.

The meeting will feature nationally recognized medical and public health professionals who will discuss the latest scientific findings regarding radon, the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers. Among the speakers will be AARC member Ron Jacobs, MBA, RRT-NPS, respiratory therapist at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, who will speak on “Communicating Health Risks to Patients: Lung Cancer is Not Just Cigarettes.”

Other topics and speakers include:

  • The Evolution of Radon in America (and Radon Health Risk Basics): Richard Guimond, PE PhD, Assistant Surgeon General, U.S. Public Health Service (Retired)
  • Translating & Disseminating Radon Science for Physicians and their Patients: Bill Field, PhD, MPH, University of Iowa
  • Radon Prevalence, Testing and Mitigation: Mike Kitto, PhD, Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory, Wadsworth Center, NYS DOH
  • A Personal Story Becomes A Mission to Save Lives: Gloria Linnertz, Cancer Survivors Against Radon
