AARC was invited to participate with other health care organizations at a June 4 meeting to discuss future demands on and direction of health care.

The meeting, hosted by American Organization of Nursing Executives and the Human Resources Section of the American Hospital Association in Washington, DC, brought together numerous groups. “What came out loud and clear was for all professions to be team players,” said Karen Stewart, MSc, RRT, FAARC, AARC President. Stewart and Tom Kallstrom, MBA, RRT, FAARC, AARC Executive Director and CEO were invited participants on behalf of the AARC. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss current needs and future projections for each organization in the provision of health care. “There are many similarities that all organizations are facing.”

Stewart said, “One of the first initiatives will be for all hospital-based health care professions to share with their organizations, consumers, and patients a clear message that the provision of care in the hospital is provided by a health care team who all recognize and respect what each discipline provides to our patients.”

Kallstrom said that the theme of this meeting is consistent with the AARC vision, noting that the AARC is also a member of the Hospital Care Collaborative, the direction of which the Board of Directors reaffirmed at their meeting this spring.

Other health care organizations represented at this meeting were:

  • American Society of Clinical Pathology
  • Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • American Occupational Therapy Association
  • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists
  • American Society of Radiologic Technologists
  • American Physical Therapy Association
  • American Organization of Nursing Executives
