The American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) has been sponsoring a friendly competition called the “Ventilator 5K” for several years now to encourage local RTs to get together in a fun way to raise money for local lung health issues.

Vent 5K events have been hosted all across the country, with teams of therapists gathering together to push ventilators around a predetermined track. The fun comes in as teams deck their ventilators out in creative “costumes” designed to draw media attention to the event.

Now the ARCF has joined with FirstGiving to make it easier for you and your colleagues to participate in the Ventilator 5K. Created to help nonprofit organizations streamline their online fundraising campaigns, FirstGiving has been used by more than 8,000 nonprofit groups nationwide, who together have recruited more than 13 million donors to the site, raising a total of $1 billion. Create an account for yourself, gather together a Vent 5K team and join in on the fun.

Simply go to the Vent 5K page on the FirstGiving website to register your event and your teams. Once registered, your supporters can make donations on the site and receive instant receipts.

So check it out today and then get together with therapists in your area and host a Vent 5K to help the ARCF raise funds to support community awareness and education about respiratory diseases.
