  • Allan Dunphy talks about pulmonary function testing in this article and video on scnow.com out of South Carolina. Allan and his students recently shared their lung health expertise with the community at a mall screening event.
  • Isaac Zamora is noted for receiving the San Diego Latino Champions’ Volunteer of the Year award in this article on the U-T San Diego website. The honor went to Isaac for his efforts to educate local youth about the dangers of smoking, asthma, and other lung health issues.
  • Trisha Miller and her students are making a difference in Morehead City, NC. The students at Carteret Community College will be hosting Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis and are inviting the community to get involved too in this article in the Jacksonville, NC, Daily News.

  • Jackie Richards offers some good advice for the parents of children with asthma in this article on the NBC-TV affiliate website out of Evansville, IN, about her asthma camp for kids. “If coughing is keeping them awake at night, then they may have more problems,” she was quoted as saying.
  • Alan Dane Slaydon is noted for his reelection to the Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. board of directors in this article in the Leesville, LA, Daily Leader. Alan will serve a three year term.
  • Linda Nelson comments on a new treadmill purchased by the Chase County Hospital Foundation for use by cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, and physical therapy patients at her hospital in this article in the Imperial, NE, Republican. “We also use the treadmill to help pulmonary patients build up endurance and improve blood oxygen levels,” she was quoted as saying.
  • Brian Cayko is noted for his role in hosting staff members from Sen. Jon Tester’s office in this article in the Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology newsletter. Brian is pictured demonstrating the need for respiratory skills on a patient simulator as well.
  • Lawrence O. Bryant and his students, Jason Harrel and War Duncombe, comment on their recent volunteer activities at a local Boys and Girls Club in this article on finchannel.com. Speaking to children and adults, they and other students in their RT program shared the dangers of smoking. “Education is very, very important when it comes to health, because a lot of people don’t realize the impact that smoking has,” Jason was quoted as saying.
  • Melissa Shaw, who has helped set up a support group for asthma patients in the Cayman Islands, is helping to educate local patients on managing and controlling their asthma. The details are in this article on caycompass.com.
  • Bette Grey shares her opinions on health care reform in this article on CBN.com. Bette, who operates a free clinic in Pennsylvania, traveled to Washington, DC, for the recent Supreme Court hearings on the new law. You can read more about Bette’s clinic in your April issue of AARC Times.
  • Deborah Pierce’s unique “travel program” for pulmonary rehab patients is the topic of this article in the Battle Creek, MI, Enquirer. For the past eight years, patients in the program have been taking virtual trips around the world by racking up points for exercising. This year they’re “traveling” along the Great Wall of China. (You can read more about this program in an article we did on it in AARC Times back in October of 2009.)
  • Denise Cuneo is noted for giving a talk on diabetes and sleep apnea to a local diabetes support group in this article in the Wrentham, MA, Patch.
  • Bob Fritz is covered in this article in the Branson, MO, Tri-Lakes News for his recent success in the political arena: he took 71% of the vote against his opponent in the alderman election in Kimberling City and was also elected to serve as a trustee on the Stone County Health Department board.
