  • Ann J. Parker receives kudos for receiving the Louisiana Society for Respiratory Care’s 2012 Pioneer Award in this article in the Houma, LA, Today. The award honors members who have dedicated a major portion of their lives to demonstrating significant contributions toward the development and advancement of the respiratory care profession.
  • Shelbourn Stevens’ new role as president of his hospital is covered in this article in the Wilmington, NC, Star News. “I am very excited to take on this new role,” he was quoted as saying. “We have an incredible team of physicians, nurses and staff at Brunswick Novant Medical Center, and I look forward to continuing the great work that is already taking place in this community.”
  • Frank Trgovich talks about improvements that are making CPAP more comfortable for patients with obstructive sleep apnea in this article in the Times of Northwest Indiana, citing the addition of heated humidifiers, the introduction of variable pressure, and the reduction of noise levels, among others.
  • Sue Szymanski warns her community about possible health hazards associated with an area fire in this article on the FOX-TV website in Virginia. “Close your windows, close your doors,” she was quoted as saying. “If you have air conditioning, turn it on and make sure it’s in re-circulation mode so you’re not bringing any outside air in.”
  • Kitty Hernlen describes all the fun and educational activities children will enjoy at her university’s upcoming asthma camp for kids in this article on the ABC-TV website out of Augusta, GA. “We’ll have all the normal camp activities, plus one hour of daily asthma education to help the children know what to look for and how to recognize asthma symptoms,” she was quoted as saying. Twenty-three Georgia Health Sciences University RT students will be volunteering at the camp.
  • Cindy Bartz was happy to see 40 people show up for the first meeting of her new Better Breathers Club a week or so ago. “We hope to educate and hopefully get them to more of a normal quality of life experience than maybe they had previously,” she was quoted as saying in this article in the Newton Kansan.
  • Joan Gauthreaux’s RT program recently received two equipment donations: a Vest Airway Clearance System and a refurbished mechanical ventilator. The two pieces of equipment will help train students like the ones she is pictured with in this article in the Magnolia, AR, Reporter.
