An Act of Heroism

AARC member Todd Farrell got a big surprise when he returned to work after visiting family in West Virginia last week. The Wayne Memorial Hospital CRT was met with a banner and loud round of applause from co-workers, and the hospital CEO was there to shake his hand as well.

There was good reason for the celebration. During their trip, Farrell and his daughter were out walking when they noticed smoke billowing from a nearby house. Farrell sprang into action.

When he got to the house, he saw a woman lying about seven feet inside the doorway. Without a thought for his own safety, he rushed into the smoky house, picked her up, and brought her outside, where he immediately began CPR.

The woman was ultimately life-flighted to an area hospital, where she was treated for inhalation injuries and second degree burns.

Farrell’s act of heroism was shared with his community through this article in the Wayne, PA, Independent.

The modest RT was grateful to his co-workers for all the attention, but was quick to note that he just “did what anyone else would have done in that situation.”
