You know a lot about the COPD patients you see every day, but how is this chronic respiratory condition impacting your state as a whole?

The AARC has learned about new fact sheets from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that can provide the answers.

Based on data collected in the 2011 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, the fact sheets include state- and U.S. territory-specific details on COPD patients by age, race/ethnicity, sex, employment status, education level, household income, marital status, smoking status, and asthma history.

The fact sheets also cover health and health care characteristics by COPD status, and for states that used the optional module in the BRFSS, information on spirometry, daily medication use, physician visits, hospital or emergency room visits, and the impact shortness of breath has on quality of life is included as well.
