  • Kerry George talks about his long career in respiratory care and how the profession has changed over the years in this interview in the Des Moines, IA, Register. “When I got started, intensive care units were brand new. Today, close to 60 percent of what we do is care of patients in intensive or critical care settings,” he was quoted as saying.
  • Lynda Ferris, Patty Parshall, and Eileen Luley are proud of their pulmonary rehabilitation program’s recent recertification by the AACVPR, and this article in the Rome, NY, Observer explains why. “The AACVPR is the gold standard by which guidelines are set to promote and provide superior quality pulmonary rehab programs,” Eileen was quoted as saying.

  • Cheryl Skinner’s department has big RC Week plans as well, and they’re covered in this article on the KNDY radio website out of Kansas. She and her colleagues are hosting a Lung Health Awareness Day on Wednesday that’ll feature games, prizes, and drawings, along with information about respiratory conditions and the need to quit smoking.
  • Susan Aufdenkampe explains why she’s not a fan of electronic cigarettes in this article in the News and Sentinel out of Parkersburg, WV. “To my knowledge there has been no study on what is exactly in them and how much nicotine they are delivering,” she was quoted as saying.
  • Karen Schell is working to provide an alternative for patients in a cardiac rehab maintenance program at her hospital who are being displaced by the need to expand the cath lab. She’s already invited several local gyms and health clubs in to talk to the patients about opportunities to move their exercise sessions there. Her efforts are covered in this article in the Emporia, KS, Gazette.
