AARC Member Receives Humanitarian Award

Last month AARC leaders attended a Patient Safety Summit in Laguna Niguel, CA, designed to serve as a national call to arms on improving patient safety in the nation’s health care system.

As part of the ceremonies, four prestigious Humanitarian Awards were presented, with one going to U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin for his work in advocating for patient safety in Congress, another to an assistant VP of quality and patient safety for a large health system in Utah and Idaho, and another to the chair of the department of anesthesiology at Baylor University Medical Center.

Rounding out this list of prestigious award winners was none other than Jon Carlson, BS, RRT-NPS, director of respiratory care at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY.

The AARC member was honored for his work in implementing a continuous pulse oximetry patient monitoring system that was credited with saving ten lives during a pilot project last year.
