Welcome to Patient Safety Awareness Week – March 2-8! Sponsored by the Joint Commission, this year’s theme is “Navigate Your Health. . . Safely.”

AARC has been focusing on initiatives to improve patient safety in recent years, such as our Patient Safety Checklists. AARC also was a participant in this year’s Patient Safety Summit, where an AARC member was awarded the Humanitarian Award.

Additionally, the AARC has focused on providing patient safety resources through its webcast series. Several of these are available on the past webcast page. A webcast presented earlier today on Patient Safety and Suctioning will be available in approximately two weeks on the archived webcast site.

According to the Joint Commission up to one in every 10 diagnoses is wrong, delayed, or missed completely. Their programs and tools, such as Speak Up, Sentinel Event Alert, and the National Patient Safety Goals, are geared toward raising the bar on patient safety. Their Patient Safety Week site provides ready access to these materials.
