The Adult Acute Care, Continuing Care/Rehabilitation, Diagnostics, Education, and Home Care Sections have just published the Spring issues of their Bulletins. Here are your direct links to these informative publications:

Adult Acute Care: Co-Editor Joe Hylton begins this issue with a look at laboratory analysis of electrolyte disturbances and from there we have great articles on pulmonary vasculature and the role of the B-type natriuritec peptide in weaning failure.

Continuing Care/Rehabilitation: Editor Arianna Villa kicks things off with a piece outlining new opportunities to expand PR programs to patients on Medicaid managed care plans, then takes a look at the AACVPR Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Registry and how it can benefit programs. We close things out with an interesting article on how to measure the success of phase 2 programs.

Diagnostics: Our new editor, Jeffrey Haynes, introduces himself to the membership and from there we have three great articles. The first offers some great tips on getting children and teens to cooperate during pulmonary function testing, the second explores normal values for nasal nitric oxide, and the third is the final article in our series on plethysmography systems maintenance. Rounding out the issue is the first edition of a new Bulletin feature: The Quarterly Case Report.

Education: This issue begins with a Notes column from Editor Bob Fluck on the need to ensure students are well versed in first aid, then continues with a look at the upcoming Summer Forum by Chair Joe Sorbello. Closing things out is an interesting article on a new study questioning the value of standardized testing in the college admissions process.

Home Care: Section Chair Kimberly Wiles shares a personal story illustrating the need to improve transition of care for patients discharged from the hospital following an acute exacerbation of COPD, and from there we have a great article on the “respiratory navigator” concept and how it can and is reinventing the role of the respiratory therapist on the health care team.

The remaining five Specialty Section Bulletins — Long Term Care, Management, Neonatal-Pediatrics, Sleep, and Surface & Air Transport — will publish their Spring editions next month.
