• Bonnie Boggs and her RT students traveled to a local elementary school to talk to the kids about respiratory conditions and the visit was covered in this article in Bedford Now out of Lambertville, MI. “When you have something like COPD or emphysema, it’s hard to breathe and it restricts the air flow,” she was quoted as saying.

• Chris Pekios talks about COPD in honor of COPD Awareness Month in this article in the Quad City Times out of Iowa and Illinois. “It’s very scary to be breathless,” she was quoted as saying.

• Students in the RT program Diane Flatland’s college took part in an interprofessional drill at the school’s simulation emergency room facility and the activity was featured in this article in the Pearland, TX, Journal. “I believe that the interprofessional drill was a ‘wake-up’ experience for the students,” noted Diane, who serves as the allied health division chair.

• Susan McQuade explains how exercising in cold air affects the body in this article and video on the KRBC-TV station out of Abilene, TX. “Cold air is very sensitive to the lungs, and when you’re exercising, you tend to increase your respiratory rate, which makes it so you breathe in more cold air,” she was quoted as saying.

• Brian Jensen and his fellow students are featured this article in his college newsletter for their plans to take part in a Special Olympics’ “Polar Plunge” during a local Christmas Stroll. Brian spearheaded an effort to get other health professional programs at the college to participate too.

• Jane Martin talks about COPD in women in this article in Newsday out of New York. “Women’s lungs are generally smaller than men’s,” she was quoted as saying. “Smoking and hazards damage the lungs equally, therefore the women have more proportionate lung damage than a man does.”
