  • Jeffrey Davis explains why his department has hosted a holiday picnic for the needy for several years now in this article in the Santa Monica, CA, Mirror. “It’s one way of helping people get warm and get some food in their bellies, even if it’s just for one day,” he was quoted as saying. Staff member Jocelyn Te and the department’s administrative assistant crocheted more than 20 stocking caps to give away at the event.

  • Kelly L. Colwell was the first person to graduate from the new online master’s degree in respiratory care program at Youngstown State University (YSU), and this article on Vindy.com notes he’s the first to acquire a master’s in the profession in Ohio as well. “We were just forward thinking and trying to get YSU’s program up and running, not really realizing it was going to set the stage for the rest of the state,” he was quoted as saying.

  • Jonathan Cope just received his degree in biology with a focus in respiratory therapy from Millersville University and he talks about his choice of schools in this article on LancasterOnline.com out of Lancaster, PA. “I feel like I got a great education,” he was quoted as saying.
  • Donald Raymond and Theresa Meinen were recognized for the honors they took home from a recent Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care conference, and Kirsten Holbrook was noted as a delegate to the board of directors in this article in the Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls, WI, Leader-Telegram.
  • Harold Oglesby received one of ten Georgia Hospital Heroes Awards from the Georgia Hospital Association, and this article on the NBC-TV website out of Savannah touts the achievements that led to the honor. “He is a fantastic role-model for so many people,” his hospital president and CEO, Paul P. Hinchey, was quoted as saying.
  • Pamela G. Odom was named Respiratory Therapist of the Year by her hospital, and the award was announced in this article in the Aiken, SC, Standard.
  • Ed Fluker talks about his hospital’s free clinic for uninsured people with lung conditions in this article on WMFE.org out of Florida. “We were always very concerned about their welfare . . . and we knew in a lot of cases they would just go home and they would get sicker,” he was quoted as saying. Kathy Cirilo, who is pictured, is just one of many RTs who volunteer their time there.
