• Dr. Bruce Rubin discusses results from a study he published in Respiratory Care in this article on the CBS News webpage.  The study found the key ingredient in Mucinex does not do what it claims.

• AARC COPD Coordinator Jason Moury can add another title to his list. According to this article in the Gardner News out of Gardner, MA, he has been elected to serve on his local Board of Health.

• The AARC was saddened to learn of the untimely death of Denise Adams in last year’s air medical transport accident, and this article on the FOX 5 website out of Las Vegas revisits the tragedy and the lives lost that day.

• This press release in the Digital Journal notes the recent appointment of Harold Oglesby to the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety Board of Advisors.

• When Nurse Appreciation Week rolled around this year, Gary Johnson’s facility used the occasion to highlight all of its employees, and this article on the NBC website out of Bridgeport, WV, zeroed in not only on a local nurse, but also his role as an RT. “Together as a team we can get together with the physician to treat the patient to the best of our ability,” Gary was quoted as saying.

• Marianne Jankowski is back in the news in this article on the CBS website out of Florida about her new bachelor’s degree RT program’s use of patient simulation technology.

• Shanna Figgins talks about an asthma camp for kids sponsored by her hospital in honor of Asthma Awareness Day in this article and video on the WHAG-TV website in Maryland. “We actually have some pretty sick kids here that have multiple allergies, multiple triggers so it's not just one thing that makes somebody's asthma worse,” she was quoted as saying.

• Shanna and her colleague, Lanette Battles, are also getting a Better Breathers Club going in their community, and the initiative is the focus of this article in the Frederick, MD, News Post. “This is a good fit for us,”  Lanette was quoted as saying.

• RT students Aubrie Anderson, Laura Pomeroy, and Tatiana Zwart have received Respiratory Therapy Scholarships from a pediatric home care company in their community, and the accomplishment is highlighted in this article on HometownSource.com. “Being able to pursue a healthcare career in which it is your job to help people will allow me to have a life-long occupation that I will love,” Aubrie was quoted as saying.

• Bonnie Boggs has received two enhancement grants from Monroe County Community College, says this article in the campus newspaper, The Agora. The first is for the Michigan Society’s annual Sputum Bowl competition and the second will go for heart and lung dissection presentations to elementary and middle school students.

• Adam Renie was named one of five Outstanding Students at his college graduation and this article in the Muncie, IN, Star Press highlights the achievement. Adam plans to continue his education, with the hopes of eventually earning a master’s degree.

• Lori Hurst’s hospital foundation recently purchased a new system to help newborns in distress and Lori offers her appreciation in this article in the Ionia, MI, Sentinel-Standard. “We are very thankful to the foundation for supporting our request,” she was quoted as saying.

• Karla Smith’s recent appointment to chair of the AARC’s Sleep Section is noted in this article in the Bismarck, ND, Tribune. Karla recently took over the position.

• Chris Tino talks about a recent health fair he worked at in this article in the Wilkes Barre, PA, Times Leader. His lung function testing booth was one of the most popular at the event.

• Sara Elledge held on to her cosmetology license after becoming an RT, and it paid off for a group from her hospital’s environmental services department in late May when they decided to shave their heads in support of a colleague with cancer. Since it was prom season they were having a hard time finding a stylist with time to do the shaving, and Sara willingly stepped in. • Randy Case talks about what the Children’s Miracle Network has meant not only to his family but also the hospital where he works in this article and video on the NBC website out of Texas. Randy’s son, Cooper, was a Children’s Miracle Network child several years ago.

• When Colleen Alflen walked across the stage to receive her bachelor’s degree in RT a week or so ago, she had plenty of company. According to this article in the Youngstown, OH, Vindicator, four of Colleen’s relatives also received their diplomas that day. 

• And last but not least, Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center garners coverage for earning the AARC’s Quality Respiratory Care Recognition in this article in the Winston Salem, NC, Camel City Dispatch.
