  • Michelle Smothers’ department has a brand new direct laryngoscope, thanks to a local foundation. The donation was announced in this article on SurfKY.com out of Kentucky.

  • Michael Davis had to revamp his recent medical mission to Liberia when the hospital where he was scheduled to work told him not to come due to the identification of two Ebola cases. Davis, who serves as president of a humanitarian group called Trusted Angels Liberia, redirected his work toward teaching in the respiratory school there and treating children at local orphanages. His story was covered in this article in the Richmond, VA, Times Dispatch.

  • Charles Cosgrove speaks out about plans to close the inpatient unit of a local hospital and move its emergency department to another location in this article in the Meriden, CT, Record Journal. “Is it going to be a full-service facility or is it going to be a band-aid station?” he was quoted as asking at a recent town council meeting.

  • Ann Meicher talks about her 22 year career at a small rural hospital in this article in the Reedsburg, WI, Times-Press. “The fact that so many like me choose to stay at Mile Bluff as long as they do speaks loudly that the organization is definitely doing something right,” she was quoted as saying. “I certainly wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love my job, the organization and the people I work with.”

  • Lou Kaufman has just been elected to serve as president of his local volunteer fire department. According to this article on Gazette.net out of Maryland, Lou has been volunteering there for 36 years. “It’s the experience of a lifetime,” he was quoted as saying. “There is nothing more exciting or rewarding than helping your neighbors.”

  • Jessica Hibbs is welcomed to her new job as cardiopulmonary manager at a local hospital in this article in the Martins Ferry, OH, Times Leader. When asked about her most gratifying health care experience, Jessica was quoted as saying, “Knowing that you can make a difference in someone else’s life.”

  • Kafayat Onanuga comments on a local workshop that helped her learn to interview for a job in this article in the Queens Chronicle out of Rego Park, NY. Before coming to the program, the Jamaican native admits she “didn’t have a clue on how to answer questions on an interview.” Since then, she’s found a job as an RT.
