Local Therapist Honored by National Respiratory Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dallas, TX (December 17, 2012) —The American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) honored Anna Caroline Marques Braga, MSc, PT, with the Philips Respironics Fellowship in Mechanical Ventilation at a recent award held in conjunction with the largest national meeting of respiratory therapists convened each year.

Barga, who is from Barcarena, Portugal and works in the Translational Clinical Physiology Unit at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, received the honor. This fellowship, established in 1993 with a grant from Respironics, Inc., is designed to foster projects dealing with mechanical ventilation, especially outside of the intensive care unit. Projects can be device development, device evaluation, cost effectiveness analysis, or education program.

Respiratory therapists are specialized health care providers who take care of people with lung conditions ranging from asthma to COPD. They work throughout the acute care hospital on the general wards, in the emergency department, and in the intensive care units, and are also increasingly employed in sleep centers, physician offices, outpatient clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, skilled nursing facilities, and patients’ homes.
