Hill Day a Huge Success
117 PACT representatives from 46 states and the District of Columbia hit Capitol Hill on Tuesday, making more than 300 visits to Congressional offices. Their message: pass the Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act to improve outpatient care for people living with chronic lung disease. Their work was made much easier this year by overwhelming support from all of you. Close to 20,000 messages were sent to members of Congress through our Capitol Connection website, ensuring that when PACT members came face to face with their members of Congress, they had the support they needed from folks back home.

Lobby Day also received great support from the patient community, as a dozen chronic lung patients traveled to DC to accompany their PACT representatives on their Hill visits. The COPD Foundation also hosted a Virtual Lobby Week of its own to engage the entire COPD community in supporting the AARC message.

Researchers Find RT-Driven Protocol Would Have Cut Costs
A new study in this month’s RESPIRATORY CARE illustrates the potential value of an RT-driven aerosolized bronchodilator protocol. Nebraska investigators conducted a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data obtained during the initial phase of a quality improvement project, finding that the RT-driven protocol would have resulted in a savings of 46% over physician-ordered therapy. The reduction in costs would have come through a reduction in the frequency of therapy.
