Keynote Address to Deliver Good Dose of Courage
Anyone who has ever worked with COPD patients will be inspired by this year’s keynote address at AARC Congress 2011. Patient advocate Grace Anne Dorney Koppel will share her own experience with the disease and how pulmonary rehab helped her gain control of it. Don’t miss her talk, “Dispensing Courage,” during the Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 5.


Time Running Out to Register for Pre-Courses
Pre-registration is required for the pre-Congress courses on hospital readmissions and mechanical ventilation and the deadline is coming up on Oct. 14.  Pre-courses are available to Congress attendees at a discounted rate.  Non-Congress attendees must register by the 14th too, but will pay full price.

Annual Business Meeting
The Annual Business Meeting of the AARC will be held in Tampa, FL, on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 8:30 a.m. Officers and directors will be sworn in and annual reports from the leadership will be presented.


AARC Members Fight for Clean Air
Members from Michigan and Maine were in Washington, DC, last month to lobby their members of Congress against legislation aimed at derailing important provisions of the Clean Air Act.


UN Zeroes in on NCDs
The United Nations held a groundbreaking meeting in New York at the end of September to address the huge burden placed on countries around the world by noncommunicable diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory disease. The result is a long “to-do” list of recommendations the UN hopes countries will begin to implement soon.
