Current Chair
Joseph G. Sorbello, MSEd, RT, RRT, has more than 33 years of experience as an educator. He is currently Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Respiratory Therapy Education, College of Health Professions, SUNY Upstate Medical University, in Syracuse, NY. He has served as the College’s Assistant Dean, Vice Chair and Chair/Member of several committees of the General Assembly of the College of Health Professions, College of Nursing and Health Sciences Library. An AARC member since 1974, Joe has a long track record of service to the AARC at the local, state and national levels, including Treasurer and President of the New York State Society for Respiratory Care and as a member of its Board of Directors for 13 years. He was also very involved in successfully obtaining licensure for New York State. Joe has served as President of the American Lung Association of Central New York and is an Instructor for both Basic Cardiac Life Support and Adult Cardiovascular Life Support through the American Heart Association. He has published in various professional journals, including Respiratory Care and respiratory care texts. Joe was also the recipient of the Education Section’s Practitioner of the Year Award in 2007 and was the H.F. Helmholz, Jr. Lecture Series speaker in 2009. Joe received his Associate and Baccalaureate degrees in Respiratory Therapy from Upstate Medical Center (now Upstate Medical University) in 1975 and 1977, respectively. He received his MSEd from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1985. Previous Chairs
